i have a 1981 sea sprite with a GM 3.8 v6 and an OMC Cobra (400? i think) outdrive. The trim doesn't work, now. It worked when i bought the boat, and right before i went to take it out, (on a checklist of things) discovered the outdrive would tilt but not "high tilt" i just get CLICK CLICK so we checked the celenoids with a multi meter and found the bad one and went to replace it, after that, nothing happened, no click no soundz and the motor won't even crank i think i got the wires messed around because i had to take the original with me to match it up and the wires were just left there hanging, there are 5 celenoids on top of the motor up dwn trim up dwn high tilt and i have no clue what the 5th is? I was wondering if anyone could help me with a lay out of these wires which is what and where they go? thank you, any help is appreciated!
~Russ

You need to buy a manual, preferably an OMC manual so that you have a wiring diagram.

Yes you need a factory manual. If it is a 1981 it not a Cobra. Cobra did not come out until 1985. The V6 should be the stringer 800 series. The 400 series was only use for the 4 cylinder engines I belive. Any a OMC 1981 should be a stringer.

Cobra uses hydrolic rams to raise the outdrive.

Stinger uses a quarter round gear to raise the outdrive.

I have a different arrangement on my 78 OMC800, which is a V8, but taking an educated guess I would say you are correct, 2 for trim, 2 for tilt. The fifth solenoid should be for the engine starter. Get the manual and hope that it's not the tilt motor itself which is buried on the port side of the intermediate housing, and a real bugger to get to.
