OMC tachometer won't work

I just installed a NOS "classic series" OMC tachometer in my boat. It does not have the modular hookup, but it has 4 wires coming out of the unit. I hooked the purple up to the power source, the grey to the tachometer lead in my control box (1977 Power Pilot), black to a ground, and blue to the light source. I switched it to "6", like the manual said, but still nothing.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Re: OMC tachometer won't work

check and see if the grey is connected at the rectifer. thats the sender to the tach. also is the battery charging, as the rectifer is what charges the battery. if the rectifier is bad and not charging it's not sending the signal.
