tilt motor went out with motor in down position. Manual only states how to lower the motor not raise it. Does anyone know how to raise the motor manualy so I can tow it to shop for repair?
We used the good switches to test the tilt on suspected bad one from our other motor.

Re: OMC sea drive tilt/trim

On some Sea Drives the release lock valve is accesed from below the the unit. There is an access hole near the forward edge of the botton mount cover. Use a large straight blade screwdriver and turn the valve counter clockwise. If you cannot get it open, you will need to remove some covers and disconnect the lines from the cylinder.
BTW the unit is very heavy and will need a couple of guys or a jack to lift. Remwember you are lifting the whole motor and bracket assy.

Manual states the release valve is lower only. Lifting is performed thru this method also?

txmink, If you losen the screw in the access hole TLH101 mentioned you can lift the motor by hand. You will need an extra large screw driver and it may still be a bear to break lose.

Something else you might try, if it is a switch and not the motor that is bad. Unplug the green and blue wires that go to the tilt motor and touch one to each pole of a batery. Be careful because you won't have a fuse in that circut but if the motor is good and the switch is bad you can raise and lower the motor that way.

OMC shop manuals are still available for the SeaDrives. I have a pair of 1987s.

Re: OMC sea drive tilt/trim

This must be Seadrive T/T problem week...lol

I just had the same problem with mine, stuck in the down position and couldn't move the boat. Couldn't get to the relief because you couldn't access anything with the engine down.

I removed the cover (vertical cover with the 4 screws that is attached to the pivoting mount) attached a lift to the lower unit and could than access the four bolts that hold the trim cylinder to the motor bracket, removed the bolts and was than able to lift the motor and block it with a 4x4 for transport. Once this trunion is removed you can lift the engine very high, just make sure your wires and fuel lines don't get snagged or pulled to hard while lifting.

Good luck!

Larry
