I changed the oil on my engine yesterday and only managed to get just under 4 quarts out, including what was in the filter. When I refilled, it took only 3 quarts to bring it up to full on the dipstick. After starting, then letting it sit a few minutes, it was down to the low end of safe, which is usually where I start with a cold engine. Is this normal? The boat was tilted back slightly, due to the slight incline of my driveway, but given where the dipstick tube enters the oil pan, that looked like it would be preferred, unless there is somewhere in the upper part of the engine where the oil can pool and not make it down to the pan. I drew it directly from the dipstick tube as directed in my manual, so it isn't like I had a tube that wasn't inserted far enough. Is this normal?
