Has anyone swapped out an old electric shift OMC (2.5L, late 60's) for a newer cable shift (3.0L, early 80's) setup? The transom holes appear to be the same size, and the engines are the same size. I want to swap everything, including engines, so no need to worry about mating intermediate to the engine. If anybody has any info, I would greatly appreciate it!

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,....
Compare the Boots,... I know there's more than 1 pattern...
Either way,...
You're gonna be doin' some modifications here,+ there anyways,...

Personally, I'd be updating to something other than a little bit better Stringer drive if I was going though the effort...
But,....
There's Nothin' wrong with yer Plan,... Go for it....

Are you sure the cutout is the same? It is my understanding that all of the old electric shift models use the big old rubber boot with the giant hole in the transom. While the newer OMC models use the more standardized, smaller cutout like Mercruiser.

Oh - and welcome aboard! :D

I think they went to the small cutout (like a mercruiser) when they went to the OMC/Cobra drives (@87 or so, me thinks).
