OMC 5.8 Carburetor to manifold question

Good morning,

I have a question regarding the mounting of the carburetor and spacer to the intake manifold.

I am going to try to upload some pictures to help explain. I have a 1990 OMC 5.8L and the intake manifold has the 4 round hoels and then the oval shaped hole off to the side. (manifold 5 pic)

If i install the spacer and gasket with the "nipple" facing to the front of the engine it leaves a gap at the rear of the carb and spacer and causes a leak. (manifold 1 pic) (manifold 3 pic)

I see the spacer has a block off built in but the "nipple would face to the rear of the engine. (Manifold 4 pic)

OK question, which way do I install the spacer, facing front or rear and to I block off the oval shaped hole on the intake and just have a tube attached to the "nipple" running to the PCV valve on the valve cover?

Thank you!!!!

Is that spacer OEM? I don't see it in my manual.

Re: OMC 5.8 Carburetor to manifold question

I cannot find it in my manuals either, as I bought the boat with the engine in boxes and rebuilt it.

I assume it is OEM, because if I mount the carburetor without the spacer there isn't any room to move the throttle linkage.

Does anyone have a 5.8L Cobra 1988 - 1993 that they could take a picture of and post it? If I mount the spacer towards the bow I have a massive air leak, if I mount the spacer with the nipple facing the aft, I can't get the engine to idle below 1100rpm's without it dying.
