Ok my brother of the boating world, I took the boat out, an man, ran great!
Ok, Boat started right up, backed it off the trailer, took off, and man it ran so much better. No more miss when trimming up or down, but i did adjust the timing to 8 dreg. BTDC, the engine vacum. was 15". Now it good and hot the thing startes in a second, and she'll turn 5100 RPM.
I made the kids cry & the old lady cuss!;)

While i don't know OMC's specs, I know that most of the 302/351's use 10 degrees BTDC as the base timing. You may want to add a degree or two and it will get you a few more ponies/smoother response. You also don't want to be turning 5100 rpm (although I realize this was likely a test run), so get a prop that puts you back in the correct WOT rpm range probably close to 4200rpms.

Ok thanks, went I get home I'll do that!
I was looking around here last night, and seen that the idle adjustment neede to be made with the boat in gear, not in neutral ?
Does this seem right?

Not sure on the idle check for an OMC, but I wouldn't think so. The idle speed for the Merc's is set so that the idle speed is below a certain number to avoid tearing up the clutch dog and causing the boat to lurch when going into gear.

The idle speed should be checked in gear in the water. This pertains to all drives.

Ok, now we'er getting somewhere.
Becouse the engine is running slower, would this be why your getting the bizzar readings on volt meter at the + side of the coil with the factor wires?
