The picture of the cap & wires is just a general indication of how things should look. When each engine is timed properly the positioning comes out slightly different due to a stack up of factory tolerances and wear over time. That is why the distributor mounting is adjustable.

okay, thanks. i went back to see if i could start it after i thought i had put too much gas in carb. i decided not too (caution) because i looked inside carb and it was still wet with gas. Is this because the needle and seat stuck in carb as desribe in thread #12? Im going to order a carb kit but wanted to make sure i was getting the right kit. i have a 2 barrel Rochester omc 4.3l cobra and was going to order from wholesalemarine.com overnight is part# SIE-18-7070 the right kit? please let me know ASAP! thanks guys

The same thing goes for the carburetter throat as for the container when you dump the fuel water separator. If whatever is in the carb throat is beading up, it's water not fuel. Gas won't stay in a droplet, it will flow out and should have evaporated by the time you got back to it.

Woops! I got two threads mixed up. But I guess it's still worth checking for water after sitting for a while.

Looks like the wrong part number. The 18-7070 is for a Rochester 2GC. Assuming that your engine is a 1989 model, it uses a 2GE carburetor and takes a 18-7086 kit. The listing for 1990 shows a Holley carb.

Sitting for a year shouldn't hurt the spark plug wires. It just depends on what shape they were in before that.

Re: omc 4.3 liter cobra v6 wont stay running

:)okay, guys. went back and did a very good check on everything after doing what everyone told me. I went to start it again this evening and it tried to start but flooded again, so i looked inside carb and gas was still going in there without me trying to start it. So, I thought for awhile with a cold one:) and took out the fuel filter by carb and found out it was clogged up with trash a liitle bit BUT WAS IN THERE
BACKARDS,so i reversed to make it right and waited for like 5min and crank it about 1/3 throttle and it started and the gas was not pouring no more in carb.I let it run for like 10 MIN and kicked it back to neutral position with a smooth idle at it its normal rpm and no leaks anywhere, etc. Turned it off and sucker cranked right off,so happy. I will still do the carb kit just to be safe. i will be taking it to lake Sat to test it. I just wanted to thank you guys so much for all the advice and saving me money.!!! Thumbs up to iboat forum!!!:joyous:
