Re: olympic hockey tomorrow

I think it has more to do with the Olympic ice then anything Volphin, to much at risk, if you miss you are now badly out of position, the whole tournament has been more conservative so far, but that can all change in a moment.

The Olympic ice just changes so much of the game as opposed to NHL ice, so much more room, passing and speed are much more pronounced, and from what I have seen the boards in Sochi are dead compared to the NHL specs, the physical side is bound to suffer.

True on all counts. :)

I'm just a diehard guy when it comes to my hockey. My Grandfather was named to the US Olympic Hockey Team in 1928, and played at ND and Minn. (For reasons unbeknownst to me we chose not to send the team to compete).

My Dad played and was a C on the Syracuse Hockey Team in the 50s.

And I never learned to skate. :(

I agree in the North American Hockey way, started by Canada no argument, the only other country to bring the game to Canada is the US and we get to enjoy that!

Now, Friday is the two best rivalries in International Hockey going, the USA vs Canada, which is always a great competitive game but will always be friendly in comparison to the other game, the Swedes and Fins absolutely hate each other, in case you didn't know a couple years ago they played and it got so bad there were talks of Criminal charges to both sides.

I love the USA vs Canada games, in my opinion that is how Hockey is supposed to be played, tough gritty fast and pure talent, but on the other side I miss the Avalanche vs Red Wings 1996-2002 games when you fully expected someone to go to the hospital, we will have both on Friday.

Whoever wins the USA VS Canada game will get whatever is left of the Sweden vs Finland game, I'm not kidding neither I bet the hospitals in Sochi are on alert for the Sweden/Finland game, don't miss this one.

Yep absolutely loved that Rivalry, but it was everything I hate about the game, those two teams had a complete lack of respect for each other(with a few exceptions) they hated each other, I have never hated someone on my own team like I hated Claude Lemieux, he is the epitome of a douche bag, right there with Todd Bertuzzi and Jordin Tootoo.

I never missed a game though, wonderful time to be a season ticket holder, and Detroit never had the stones to pull their BS in Colorado either...
