Guys,<br /><br />I am looking at a 25' Grady White with a pair of 1983 OMC outboards. I know the story about OMC but I have no experience with these models and was looking for opinions, experiences, warnings, recomendations and suggestions.<br /><br />Currently these motors have 200 hours on rebuilds.<br /><br />Thanks,<br /><br />Bajabubba ... burp!

The problems to be worried about would be the Ficht engines 97'-01', and possibly the early VRO equiped engines, which would be a simple fix...Other than that, the 83's should be reliable if they have had any care...... :)

baja.....200 hrs. is not that much, so you should be in good shape, butI would do a compression test just to be sure before you bought it. Also ask when the last time the water pumps were changed. Good Luck.

Re: OLDER OMC 200HP OUTBOARDS

Thanks guys for the comments. I have more info now. I quote the owner:<br /><br />"Motors run well. One new in '90, rebuilt twice. One new '98 (power heads)<br />Not used much, but professionally maintained, serviced routinely...lower unit oil, lube etc. I have OMC factory manual for the engines/Sea Drive brackets.<br />New hyd lines. new tach...more."<br /><br />I guy is a former navy captain so I feel pretty good about this. However, since the motors are 90's ... this was when things were going to hell at OMC, so I am concerned about that. Funny, I actually was hoping they were older!!!! :D
