Hi Guys,
I recently purchased a 1997 Lund 1650 Angler SS. The floor was bad and I am replacing it with Coosa board ( Blue Water 26). In the process of inspecting the boat I also discovered that the transom board was soft and I plan on replacing it with Blue water 26 also. I have a couple of questions for the folks that have been through this with a Lund.

#1 Will I have to remove the gunwales to remove and reinstall the transom board ?

#2 I am planning to replace all of the carpet with Nautelex vinyl, has anyone else tried this ? How long does it take and how much material to order ?

Thanks ,Junkmotor

Re: Older Lund project

I removed the the rear transom caps and it appears that about 2" of the gunale cap can be bent forward and the transom board will side out the top.

Anyone on the forum have experience with this particular repair on this 97 Angler SS ?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated .

Also it appears that if I remove the splash pan, I can access that nuts that are on the machine screws that hold the transom board in place ?

Thanks for any reponses

Re: Older Lund project

Coosa is good stuff but not to for me. I see your boat has lasted over 30 years with plywood and that is where the cost to benefit comes in. I do have to admit I am guilty of over-building since I use epoxy and exterior plywood myself. How long do you intend to keep the boat? I think the longest I have owned one is 10 years and that was a 14' aluminum fishing boat. I have been through allot of boats.

Yes bending the cap away is the preferred method for many. The lund is no different then the MANY starcrafts that have been re-built here. Read these tips http://forums.iboats.com/boat-resto...r/how-tos-other-great-information-288451.html and look at some of the completed projects Completed Boat Projects

Re: Older Lund project

Thanks for the response Bob_VT,

The boat is only Sixteen years old and I purchased it secondhand. The transom was not sealed and it appears that the decay started from the top where water drains from the gunale into the top of the transom. The row of screws on top left side of the transom cap could be removed simply by pulling them out with fingers. I have read through several threads about transom board replacement on Lund aluminum boats and it seems as if it will require approximately 30-35 man hours to replace the board. I have already laminated two pieces of Blue Water 26(Coosa board) to replace the transom board. I wanted to do the repair with something that was not subject to decay from exposer to water.

I have already completed replacing the deck with BlueWater 26. So far I am very pleased with the product and will use it in other applications where strength, weight and resistance to rot are factors. If I can complete this project with positive results, I intend to keep this boat for several years.

Thanks for any tips or insight into this project.

If you don't mind my asking, what's the price for the Coosa board gunna be for enuf to do the deck and transom? What are you using to laminate the pieces together?

Re: Older Lund project

Coosa BlueWater26 ran me about $186 a (4'x8')sheet and it took two sheets to replace the floor and replace the transom . I still have a couple small pieces to replace the top of a couple side bunks . The company(Coosa) said regular fiberglass resin is fine to bond two sheets together.
