old west bend 45 hp

i've got an old west bend (now mercury?) (not sure) model # is 45531, s/n is C-1519. not sure what year it is. any guess? starts and idles fine. some oil seepage/leaking from lower unit (normal for older motors?). bogs down at about half throttle (under load in water). could it be the fuel/oil mixture? i was told 20:1 by who we bought boat from. also looking for a parts/service manual.

Welcome to iboats.<br /><br />West Bend became Chrysler became Force (US Marine) became Force (Mercury). Interestingly, they were never made in West Bend. They were made at the old Kissel car factory down the road in Hartford.<br /><br />Gearcase leaks aren't normal. It means you have a bad seal. After all this time, they're probably all bad and should be replaced. Gas mix is 50:1 using any decent 2-stroke outboard oil. Your bogging problem is more likely from crud in the carb, or your fuel pump needs rebuilding.<br /><br />I can't find your model number. 45531 is a 1965 chrysler number.
