Hello,
I've been a member for awhile, but post very little.
I'm sure this has been asked, and I searched, but I'm not finding what I need.
I read that before 1972 boats weren't required to have a HIN. (Hull Identification Number)
Does anyone know if an old (about 1965) StarCraft 16 footer had a Hull Identification Number or Serial Number of some sort?

My 1966 Starcraft had a serial number, no HIN. I have a serial number plate, but the state issued a HIN begining GAZ and a letter to let future owners know the HIN is legit.

The data plate was attached to the upper starboard inner wood transom.

Thanks, I'm still reading up on this. I found an example in another thread of one from an old StarCraft.

Exactly like mine. Except I have a Nassau, the S/N begins 66- for 1966 and different capacities. Not pre-1972s are formatted like mine and the one you posted above.

I have a `65 Holiday - the serial number was on a plate that looked like the one you attached. I believe there was also a number under the dash somewhere too, but I can't remember where. In Ohio, they register with a HIN assigned to the serial number (mine was placed on the transom). If there's no markings on the boat, the division of watercraft should be able to help you out based on the license number. Hope that helps!

Being a "data collector", I have a list (and images) of SC S/N's over time, the earliest is 418,9xx listed as a '65 TBD, more reliable numbers are in the 90x,xxx starting in '69 and running to 1,043,xxx in 1973.

DL that's good info on the serial #'s. I just picked up a Starcraft Holiday a few days ago and was told it's a 1970 ( The title does state it's a 1970) but I was skeptical and thought maybe it was newer, maybe late 70's. But with the serial # on the capacity plate and the info you posted I suspect it probably is a 1970. Great info!!

Can you post a pic of the rating/Sn plate for my collection?

This matches another plate I have, 905058, that I suspect is a '68 build.

And GA's comment about his starting with a "66" to represent the year also matches one I have, that I questioned until GA's post - 69 25849
