Old Merc - but how old is it?

I recently acquired an old Mercury 4.0hp 1cyl. Runs like a charm but needs a few things and would like to restore some parts. Have searched for the year from the serial number but there appears to be quite a difference between US built and Canadian built. Have not been able to pin point the year of this motor and need to know to buy parts. The serial number is 7037968 and is in Canada. Not sure if it started out here or not. Can anyone shed some light on the year. Your help is appreciated. Anything else I should know about this oldy would be appreciated. The first thing I need is a new prop.

Thanks for your quick reply. The only other question, is it Canadian built or US built? After posting my last questions, I scrolled through a lot of the posts and the year question seems to pop up quite a bit. Is there a link available to check these serial numbers or do you just have a list of SN's and years?
