Looking to replace the old hardened trim tab hoses on a 1990 bayliner 2651.... old insta trim motor works well.....the hoses are rock hard and need to be replaced.....the hose Is readily available on line....... what’s the process for getting the new trim hose off the trim tab cylinder and replace with new hose? Looks like a metal sleeve that’s a pressure fit type system.... does it require a special tool to remove and refit new hose? Can the metal sleeve be reused? Any help would be appreciated.

Are you sure the “hoses” and not (hard) nylon tubing?

Nylon tubing unless physically damaged should out live the boat

Nylon tubing use compression fitting. Need to replace the compression sleeves when replacing the tubing

Sorry....yes they are nylon tubing not hoses....bad description on my part. Outlive the boat? Not physically damaged but are 30 years old. Do we roll the dice or replace( if possible)
tubing to motor had hose clamps
tubing to plate cylinder has this plastic fitting at the top of cylinder. How does one remove the plastic sleeve at top?
Photo attached. Thank you for any advice.

I did some checking....unlike Bennett that uses nylon tubing, according to the Insta-trim installation manual you have "hydraulic hose" on your system that terminate on hose barbs. That would explain the hose clamps, etc.

To remove the hose, use a razor knife and cut the hose length wise back roughly 1/2" from the end of the hose on each fitting. Should be able to twist the hose off the fitting at that point.

At this point you could easily change out the existing fittings and hoses for nylon tubing if desired.

Personally, I'd swap out the rubber for nylon..

Guessing that plastic sleeve was once used there the hoses passed thru the transom.

Cut the hose off above plastic. Bet it's just slides over the fitting, if that where it belongs in the first place

Thanks dingbat..... appreciate the info. Did some more research. Found that most are using SS hose clamp on each the motor pump and trim tab cylinder. I’ll probably go that way and not use the plastic fitting to secure to cylinder.

Pulled both trim tabs off.... hoses out and the leveler motor. Checking solenoids, switches, cleaned and painted the tab cylinder. Here’s a before and after of tab and cylinder. For those that are considering this it took about 1/2 hour to remove all parts from boat....45 min to clean up each tab and cylinder ( cleaning, scraping, sanding etc) primer and then 3 coats of rattle can.
