I have a pontoon with a 70 Evinrude on it, I have to replace the cdi. The updated one I got came with a new coil that is different than the original one. The coil has a screw on it that I am not sure what it is for... Maybe ground. Anyone know if this screw is for a ground, the old coil was grounded and also had a power wire. I attached a picture of the coil and the cdi. Thanks

No that is not a ground.-----The orange wire from the CDI / amplifier goes there !----The metal strap is the ground.----And I do not believe you have a 70 HP motor either.-----Perhaps a 1968 / 69 model 55 HP or a 1970 / 71 model 60 HP.

There is no orange wire, the cdi and coil came together as well, only wire left is a ground wire from block. The old coil had a blue wire and a ground. The blue wire met up with the blue wire from the cdi at the terminal block.

The 70 HP models have orange wires from the CDI unit.-----The 55 and 60 HP motors have the blue wire.----When you post the wrong information how can you expect correct answers !

Looked up the part # to determine that you do not have a 70 HP motor / powerhead.

Yo man, ease up. I didn't
realize people would think the 70 was hp, I meant it as the year of the motor. I do believe it is a 60 hp. You have been really helpful, sounds like I need to connect a blue wire from coil to terminal block.

Agree. And see you worked hard to correct the yr./hp confusion in the first post.
