I would use the gas in the lawn mower and start fresh.

Re: Old gas question???

I alway use up my old boat gas in one of the old pickups or gas powered tractors we have. That way it isn't wasted, and I don't have to worry about water in the gas or low octane in stale gas.

I'd run it through my outboard. Its old gas/oil mix sitting in carbs that causes problems.

Re: Old gas question???

Adding fuel stabilizer to old fuel is the reverse of how it works. You add fuel stabilizer before you store the fuel to keep it from turning to varnish. You can't reverse that process by adding stabilizer after the fact. And there is no difference between the fuel sitting a carbuetor and the fuel sitting in a gas can. They are both old. An outboard is probably the most sensitive to stale fuel so don't use it unless it was stabilized before storage.

Put 2-3 gallons of fresh 50:1 in both and run it as normal...some sea foam wouldn't hurt either.

I have never run old gas in any engine and never had gas related problems.....nor "noxious weed" problems either if you get the drift. Tain't worth the potential problems and mental anguish worrying about whether or not you will have a problem with it.

My 2c, but it's my money, my outboard, and my piece of mind.

Here in Pennsylvania my neighbors wonder why my 20hp Sears Tractor smokes so much when I'm plowing snow in the winter. Gotta use it somewhere!!

Times are changing...A few fuel stabilizers on the market now have enzymes and other additives to help restore old gas...including the octane. I see it used frequently on boats that have 1-2yr old gas or diesel and the boat owners swear by it, not at it. The new breed of stabilizers are made to use differently than Stabil types...and they are also more expensive.
