Hi I have a older garvey ???? maybe from the 60's maybe older? It has the clasic flat bottom. While these are good to get in low areas they tend to be harsh on the ride.I was thinking of fiberglassing the bottom this year inside and out for strenght. It leaks like a sive. Never swells, been it the water all year, each trip it reopens. Never in danger of sinking. I am a bit worried one of these hard bumps off a wave is going to open her up and then I be out the engine and gear $$$$$$. So I was going to do the glassing. My question is can I re do the whole bottom in a V type design to make the ride better? I was even thinking of running a 2x8 from the stern to the bow tappering it from 8 to 4 inches this would give me a skeg in the rear and stop the slide on fast sharp turns. I have dug it in and have almost been toss out! Then just add 3/8 ply from the center to each side and both screw and fiberglass the end seems as well as the whole bottom. The boat is all cedar. Or am I crazy?<br />steve
