4 cylinder, 2 stroke, spark advance like the old Model "A" ford. Engine tag #4381 - 00972 I used it 40 years ago.
Would like to restore and sell. Need info on where to find decals, recoil started parts etc. Jack

I believe what you have is a 1945- 46 Evinrude Zephyr 5.4 HP.

Yep. A good old Zephyr. Like seahorse5 says, those parts should be easier to find at the aomci website. Believe it or not, they are still fairly common. You might also hit up Sea-Way Marine, or Engine Blade and Prop for NOS parts too.

Glad to hear that you think enough of it to restore it; even if you're doing it for re-sale.

Here's an account from someone who didn't particularly care for his Zephyr(s)....

It makes for a funny read; although I guess it wasn't funny at the time :)

Yea, the quirky thing about Zephyr's was getting the carbs properly adjusted. The one I had was a screamer. I got it to where I could grab the flywheel and give it a twist to start it up. Of course, that all changed when I retro-fitted a new pull rop assembly in the starter housing. Like oddjobsmotors states though, the TD's were a little more peppy and theres actually a lot more of them still around today, than the old Zephyr's
