I've recently come into posession of an old Evinrude (Serial # 15036A-03139). Does anyone know what year & horsepower this is? Also, oil:gas ratio? I've used a 24:1 ratio because that's what the previous owner said he used. I've been able to get it started in my driveway (after many pulls) but only for a few seconds...10 at the most. It usually doesn't kick over at all.

Re: Old Evinrude Motor

Your engine is a 1962 model 18 hp.You will get mixed advice on the oil ratio ranging from 24:1 to 32:1 since the introduction of better TCW3 oil which was not available when your engine was manufactured.Either will work fine in my opinion ,and the 24:1 may smoke a bit more.<br />I'd wager that a carb cleaning and or rebuild is in order before the engine is ready for use.I would begin by performing a compression test to verify that cylinders are healthy.
