Hi All,
1st time on here so please go easy on me.

I'm new to the powered type boating scene and as such have just purchased a Evinrude Fisherman outboard.

The guy I bought if off said it was an early 70's model 6hp but I'm not so sure. It runs fine but as I don't know the history I want to give it a service and as such need to find the age and model number to buy a manual.

I can only find a small disk on the engine with the following stamped on it co568740 Can you give me an idea as to where the serial number would be?

If you need photos I can post them.

I hope someone can help.

Thanks

There should be a ID plate riveted on the LH (port) side of the transom mounting bracket that will give you a model number. The number you show may be a serial number.

If you go back on this forum to the FAQ & down near the bottom, there is a link to my 9.9/15hp articles. However in that is also one on the 6hp of your year range, with some photos. http://www.sschapterpsa.com/ramblings/OMC_6hp.htm

Re: Old Evinrude Fisherman

I called Evinrude customer service and explained my 40 HP didn't have the transom tag and they gave me all the info. I needed off that small disc number. I had tried dealers prior and they were of no help at all. Best of luck. Rick.

Hmmmm typically, Evinrude puts the model and serial number on that little welch plug, but yea, you should be able to find a little 1 x 2 tag on the transom clamp with the model and serial number on it, unless someone took it off. Those 6's are excellent little motors and you'll love running it. I would recemend reading the top secret files on the top thread of this forum to get some good info. It'll be of great help to you. Good Luck and welcome to iBoats. :D

Re: Old Evinrude Fisherman

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your quick replies.

I have had a quick look at the link that the machinist posted. It seems that the photos and info relate to my motor.

The motor itself is working fine at present but I would still like a manual so I can strip it down over winter in the garage. Do you guys know where I can get one for my model from??

I'm about to take to the water tomorrow for the first time for a test run in my local river. I'll let you know how it goes!! :)

Thanks again.

Well, most guys will recemend a factory service manual, which is a good idea, but myself, I have done fine with a Seloc. I have only been a wrench twister for 30+ years, so they have worked out fine, but if you need things a little better detail, get a factory manual.
