Krosemond, WHEN THE ENGINE STARTS THAT MEANS "GO" TO THEM. I HAVE TWO BOYS, 10 & 12.THE ONLY THING ON THIER MIND IS GETTING TO WHERE WE ARE GOING. IT COULD BE THE BEACH OR FISHING, THEY ONLY WANT TO HURRY AND GET THERE.MAYBE WE SHOULD TAKE THEM TO THE DENTIST BY BOAT AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS.LIKE YOU SAID SMALL POTATOES.DON'T SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF. THEY ARE ONLY SMALL ONCE.ENJOY THE REST OF THE SUMMER, AND THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR HELP. HOPE THAT I CAN BE OF ASSISTANCE TO YOU OR SOMEONE ELSE ON THIS FORUM. DENNIS{FAMILY CRUISER}

Re: Old Evinrude 1978 235 HP Hard To Start Cold

I have this old Evinrude that is hard to start when its cold. I pump the bulb to its hard, give it full choke and crank it. It cranks but does not even sound like it wants to start for the first 2/3 times cranking. Then it will sound like a backfire or something, and then it will usually start 2/3 cranks later. After it starts it will start usually easy the rest of the day. But it takes 5/10 minutes to get started from the cold position. The plugs are new, and the engine runs fine when it warms up. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. THANKS- Dennis (FAMILY CRUISER) :) :confused:

that 235 choke only came with bottom 2 carb choke flaps ..put a 3rd (top carb) on and your problem solved >> been there done it for YEARS i used the squirt bottle ... a backyard mechanic tpold me bout this ..and so it is i put it on ..never looked back ..starts EVERY time right up good by squirt bottle... good luck

What are you trying to do, rick? Set some sort of record for digging up the oldest dead thread to put a redundant reply on?
