old evenrude trouble

had a post in earlier about not being able to get the foot apart on an old 35 evenrude.some guy said about removing the intake screens to let go shaft but there is nothing in there. There is no plate on the leg at all. The foot will come apart from the leg about 1-2 inches any ideas

You have to get the shift linkage apart, what is the model number of your engine?

not sure engine is not origanal all i know is it an evenrude

Does it have thru-(propeller)hub exhaust or is it a pin drive? Is there any sort of plate on the transom clamp that has a model number? Failing that, is there a silver core plug near the back of the engine with numbers stamped into it?
