Looking for some help identifying the model of this boat. Approximately 15ft. I have zero info from previous owner (deceased). Salvaged for possible restoration because it was interesting. Please skip the "scrap it" comments. What is the purpose of the "gutters" in the pictures? Forgive my ignorance, I am not a lifetime sailor. Just looking for a cheap education.

Ok ,I'll bite , have you checked the upper right hand corner on the outside of the stern for ID engraved numbers ,letters ? That will tell us if it's pre 73 .
As far as the gunwale goes , no idea why the gutter is there , can't think of anything it would be useful for if fishing . Clamming or something like that ?

My hunch is that it held decorative trim, such as wood, for mounting whatever. Given the amount of mulch on the deck, that "trim" long rotted away.

My gut tells me that is a total gut and restore - stringers, floor, transom, etc. Fixing it won't be cheap, it will be itchy, it will expand your vocabulary along with your tool collection.

Given there's no motor on it other than a suspect trolling motor, I would be thinking this decision over....multiple times.

Before going any further, I would make absolutely certain you can get the craft registered in your name. Barring that, its a yard planter or kids sandbox.

looks like the boat was derigged and left for scrap.

for the cost to make the hull safe and usable, not to mention the 12-24 months you will spend, you can buy a running boat today that you can use immediately after registration

Cobias are common in my neck of the woods. Never seen one like that. Fiberglassics does not even show a similar model in their archives. It looks like the reg. numbers were blocked out in the pic. DMV records would possibly identify if it truly is a Cobia. The HIN would indicate the year.

Whatever was there was probably removed.

I appreciate the scrap comment, and I wouldn't do it myself. Doing that would probably cost a lot of money in today's environmental concern era.

OTOH, before going any further you need to examine the hull carefully for structural damage. That era boat undoubtedly had a chopper gun hull. Based on the pictures of the storage conditions, regardless of cost, it may not be restorable.

Looks like it could possibly be an oooooold Garvey which were used mostly for clamming and crabbing."Gutters" were possibly to get the crap back overboard instead of in the boat.Charlie

The " Cobia " decal could be the model ,not the MFG . Have you confirmed there are or are not any hull ID number's engraved on the transom ?
