If anyone has old charts of the Great Lakes laying around and no longer being used or wanted please let me know. If you have marked your favorite spots of have rum lines drawn on, so much the better. Ripped, wrinkled, or worn - even better. US or Canadian I won't discriminate.

Re: Old Charts

Yep, growing up we took lots of trips by boat to all kinds of places. So for a bout a month beforehand out would come the charts, calibers and parallel rulers and we would map out our trip. By measuring distances and utilizing speed we could more accurately DR our positions and estimate arrival times and allow for course adjustments based on depth, time, course and speed. Somewhat more challenging than using todays GPS equipment.

Many of the old charts I have are marked up and spilled on with coffee and the like. As we were a smaller boat the charts were folded into squares that could be read from the helm. Over the years they got fairly trashed.

With the advent of GPS people have stopped relying on the old stand by's. Such a shame and it could be a mistake if their equipment is off.

Try going to the County Engineer's Office and asking them. Once they're updated they are no longer any use to them and they may have some laying around. Mr. LF just obtained a bunch for us. I haven't decided what to do with them yet.
