The energy savings are in the dryer because the front loader spins out the clothes better. I am on propane so the cost diffrence between that and natural gas is close to 3 to 1.

Also consider that your clothes will last longer. Top loaders beat clothes up.

When my wife at her old job they had Fisher&Paykel washers and dishwashers..... the computers would die :( and eventually the business owner replaced them all. Yes they are supposed to be and are very fancy.

Good to know that you will not have any issues with Propane conversion. I will tell you that I have 4 kids and a wife who uses the machines to death. 6 months into having them and yes the savings can be seen. Best of luck with yours.

The biggest improvement in our laundry was not the machines used, but where they were located. A few years ago I moved the washer and dryer from the basement to the second floor. Bought new pair of GE top loader washer/dryer. They work very well in spite of my wife often overloading the washer. She is so happy with the machines upstairs. No more running to the basement and back upstairs with laundry baskets full of cloths.

The GE machines have performed very well, but are probably not as energy effecient as the LG you are looking at.

I have one thing to say about LG... STAY AWAY. I bought an LG washer about 5 years ago, great for the first few years, then a mold starts growing on the rubber door seal and the washer smells like mold. There is nothing you can do to get rid of it. Believe me I tried everything. Go on the web and research "LG Washer class action suit" and you will see what I am talking about.

The mold problem is not limited to the LG, it's characteristic of all front loaders, as you will find with a more extensive web search. When I'm don with the week's wash, I wipe out the area under the door seal, the leave the door open so it can dry out. If I don't do that, the area will still be wet a week later - perfect mold growing condiitions.

Just like the sub floor in a boat. This is why I think there should be vents in the deck with a blower to dry out any water the might get in there. They build boats and think water will never get in there. But what if it does? There are no provisions just in case water does get in there. And by the looks of all the rotted deck threads it seems to be very hard to hermetically seal a deck.

Sorry for the rant. Keeping with the thread. Don't buy GE....junk. Sears sucks unless you buy their extended warranty. They won't give any good will....period. $1800.00 GE refrigerator broke down right after the warranty ran out year and a half old. Sears wanted 400 dollars to fix it. Even after the service man told his supervisor that it was a defective part still would not give any good will, and I'm a long time customer 30 years with Sears. Not any more. Broke down 3 times since then. I can't even begin to think how bad their washers are.

At my wife's former job there was a front loader and she is familiar with them. Yes the sales lady mentioned that the door is to remain open when not in use. I really don't see any big deal with it. The WD is on my second floor where all the bedrooms are...... it's not like we will be tripping over the door.

Yup I read all the reviews and most of the reviews for the major brands commented (on every top loader) that noise was a problem.

Yea, I knew about this and wiped mine down after every load. Also left the door open to dry it out. It still developed the mold. It may not be limited to LG's but in my research, LG comes up as a problem a lot more often than other brands. There is a product I bought at Lowes called Affresh that seems to help some. It is in tablet form and you run it through the washer about once a month. If I used it when I first got the washer instead of waiting until I had the problem, maybe this would not have happened.
