Thanks for the reminder...I actually need to buy a tinny for fishing. I hate the word 'newby'.

From Wiki - ""tinny" is also commonly used as slang for a small open aluminium boat." Origins from New Zealand / Australia.

Also saw reference to Tin foil and aluminum foil being thought of as similar. Tinny sounds better than a Foil boat.

I have one of each, the tinny is my daily use fishing machine, and my glass one is my project that just isn't getting any farther to completion. Never owned a solid wood boat, never will I don't think.

If it were the "King's English" it would be "al-U-min-i-um". If it's ok with all, I'll stick with tinny.

I was thinking more in terms of a Riva or a modern Hacker.

I've got a bunch of tinnies, and they will remain tinnies.

But if you want the kings english, then you had better get it right yourself.

They spell, and pronounce the word -- aluminium.

Dear Expidia,

We could create and post a specific forum rule regarding your boat's proper nickname and any offender's would be charged a significant monetary fine which would then be placed in escrow. At the end of each day we then can check the escrow account and donate the funds to a Recycle Facility that recycles aluminum cans.......... aluminum cans are directly related to aluminum boats :)

The account should probably be nicknamed with an appropriate acronym to keep things simple and easy, I'll suggest "TEA" since it's memorable, has a good ring to it... (TInny Escrow Account )
