.....the components for mixing a small amount of Marine Tex. They don't give the stuff away so I do not want to mix the whole two oz container for a tablespoon of material. The instructions only allow a 10% variation and I cannot see a reasonable way to measure out 5 parts of paste and one part of liquid catalyst.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Steal your wife's (or mother's) measuring spoons. If I remember correctly 1 tablespoon is equal to 3 teaspoons. 2 1/2 teaspoons of resin and 1/2 teaspoon of catalyst will give you 1 tablespoon of Marine Tex.

Hmmmm, never occurred to me to defile the wifes measuring spoon set. Being the bad boy that I am, it was out of character for me. I'll jump right on it Ken. Shhhhhh! Just don't tell! ;)

The part I cant figure out is it says to use 1 to 5 ratio. but you get a 2oz hardner and 12 oz paste. isnt that 1 to 6???

The spoons also come in handy in the shop/garage when mixing herbicide, insecticide, etc. I keep a set all the time.

...spoon will have residue each time,... if an VERY exact measurement is needed, use the suringe from a meat injector.

Re: Ok, how do you measure....

Well, I did use Mama's measuring spoons. Cleaned em up real good and slipped em back into their place. No one's the wiser.

What messy stuff that Marine tex is. I had to fill 6 1/4" holes on each side of the transom. I chamfered them on both sides and taped the inside of the transom. On the first side, I was getting the stuff all over the transom, trying to get the holes filled, so I switched for the other side and taped the outside of the transom with clear tape and applied the MT from the inside. I had a lot of trouble filling the holes all the way to the clear tape. I kept pokin and probing and some of the holes still did not fill all the way.

I'll have to mix another small batch to finish up and sand off the mess on the other side of the transom. It should have only taken a few minutes and been easy to accomplish but I was still struggling to fill the holes as the MT started to harden 20 or so minutes later.
