Re: Oil to use?

Welcome aboard Mate!:)

That question will open a rather large can of worms.

I, for one, use Mystic 2 Stroke Sea & Snow. Seems to work fine in our boats, snowmobiles, chain saws, etc.

One side note......I'm not a big fan of the older oil injection systems. I've disable, the "oil mixing system" and run pre-mix 50-1. I know, mixing can be a hassle. But one knows the exact mixture you engine is getting.:)

Re: Oil to use?

Any TCW-3 rated two-stroke outboard oil will be OK. A full synthetic 2 stroke oil may smoke less and burn cleaner than regular 2 stroke oil.

Yes this could open a large can of worms indeed... You may get many answers on this and not all will agree with one another. I have been using Pennzoil marine synthetic blend for several years and it works very well at 50:1. I can get a gallon at walmart for 14.00 right now and thats not a bad price. Recently I switched over to Amsoil Saber marine oil in my 57 Johnson FD-11 18 horsepower outboard at 80:1 and I really like the results I am getting so far. Much less smoke and it runs a lot better than the old outdated 24:1 oil technology from the fifties. I'm sure a lot of folks raise their eyebrows to this and think I'm crazy for doing so however technology has changed quite a bit over the years. Oil has gotten much better than it used to be and you don't need that rich mixture anymore. As I said so far this oil is great and I like it a lot better than anything I have used in the past. I'm switching my Bass boat Evinrude 60 over to Amsoil this year too and going to run that at 100:1. I don't have any hesitation running this oil at this ratio as there has been extensive testing done with excellent results. But if you feel better sticking to 50:1 then there are some good oils out there that will work fine. Quicksilver oil is also good oil though a bit expensive. I think the Pennzoil has the best value for the 50:1 and a synthetic blend oil. I run my engines hard and I haven't had any issues to date.

Any marine two stroke oil with the TC-W3 designation on the label will work. If you disable your VRO then you will want to pre-mix at 50:1. Doesn't matter if you use synthetic or not mix it 50:1 and your outboard will last.
