Oil Retainer removal help

Hey guys So i got new impeller kit and bunch of other new seals for my 1979 johnson seahorse 6hp anyways theres the one oil retainer on the so called " HOUSING & RETAINER ASSY " parts # 13 on the link below anyways it has a OIL RETAINER part# 14 in it and i need to replace mine how do i get it out ??? any speacial tools or anything?? or am i stuck buying a new housing assy ,oil retainer and gasket ?? plezzz help me this is last thing that has to be done to get it all back together thanx alot for all the replys and help very appreciated thanx agin

The seal can be removed (if you're careful) by prying with a screwdriver. I use a small slide hammer with "inside puller jaws", but I've also done it with a screw driver and a thin piece of wood (or plastic) to protect the surrounding casing while prying.

K thanx thats what ive been doing prying it out maybe thought that there was easyer way im goin to look into slide hammer i understand what your saying there maybe that will do it we ll see i guess but thanx for reply I also wanted to know if heat from a torche ??

No need to use heat, the seal will pry out, sometimes they can be a pain but it will pry out for you.

so i screwed up big time i broke it anyways thats not the worst thing They dont even make HOUSING & RETAINER ASSY part # 13 so im riht screwed but my question now is doesn anyone out there got parts for 1979 johnson seahorse 6hp asap ill pay shipping and what not plezz help me out thanx agin guys

suggest going to marineengine.com and find the part no. for the housing..many split gearcases use the same housing....then shop ebay or other marine salvage yard listed in the Top Secret Files...

The parts should be the same around the impeller.
