Oil Pressure

I have a 1987 Cruisers with twin 5.0 230hp Mercruisers one of them idles at around 20 psi (oil pressure) the other at 40 psi. The low side goes up with the rpm and tops out at around 40 psi. Should i be looking into an oil pump ?

you should be looking into a mechanical (bourdon tube) pressure gauge to install in place of the electric sender and verify the pressure reading

Or simply swap wires and sending unit side to side to rule out bad sending unit or gauge.

And rarely is the pump cause of low pressure.
