Oil pan drain hose

I routed my hose out the bilge drain plug after warming up the engine and no oil comes out. It does connect to the bottom of the oil pan. I did use it last year to drain it but it took hours. Is there a pump that I can get to suck the oil out?
Anyone know if using the quicksilver pump on the dip stick tube gets all of the oil out or not?

Welcome.
The type of pump that removes the oil through the dipstick tube gets enough oil out that you don't have to worry about the small amount left behind.

Gee, I just pulled the plug and let her drain thru the garboard drain. A couple of squirts of purple stuff cleaner and a blast with the hose cleaned up the residual oil in the bilge. No pump, no mess.

I like the all metal Topsider MVP. I have it about 20 years and have used it for everything:
Boat inboard oil changes
Jeeps:
Suck oil out of diffs and auto trans
This saved me from a huge mess this winter when the filter on my Chrysler 545RFE clogged & the trans wouldn’t go into gear. Sucked 4 qts out of the pan before loosening it.
With any vacuum pump the plastic hoses must fit tight. I made up a garden hose adapter for it that works great on my 1988 OMC & my brothers 2020 Mercruiser.

I used manual and electric pumps thru the dipstick for years. PITA. Then, my son bought a boat with an oil pan drain that came out the garboard drain. Wholly mackerel.....what an improvement.

No muss, no fuss, no dripped oil and much faster.

If nothing comes out, the hose is plugged. Try to snake the hose. If that doesn't work, remove the oil the hard way and then take off the hose and oil pan fitting. Clean them out and seal back up and at least you'll be ready for next year.

The key with the dipstick method is to fab up a garden hose adapter instead of shoving the small plastic hose down the dipstick. Much faster & easier. Just make sure your hoses fit tightly & you have a gasket in the female fitting of the garden hose adapter.

On last boat, extended that hose and connected to 12 VDC turbo charger oil used scavenger pump (about $40). Pumped out all the cold oil in under 1 minute.

I'd snake the hose first. Sure sounds like you have some sludge or something clogging it up.

The key with the dipstick method is to fab up a garden hose adapter instead of shoving the small plastic hose down the dipstick. Much faster & easier. Just make sure your hoses fit tightly & you have a gasket in the female fitting of the garden hose adapter.

My 3 liter merc had a hose fitting on top of the dipstick. The first hand oil pump I had also had the female fitting on the hose. Yes, it was an easy hookup, but every time I used it I had drippage when it was taken apart. Personally, I found the hose in the dipstick a cleaner process.
