I have a 1990 welcraft with the 5.7 alpha. I took it out for the first time this year and about 20 min into it I herd a loud clanking so I ran it slow . the clanking kept going and then the engine shut down. not a bang shut down but a smooth shut down like turning of the key. oil in engine still clear but oil in bilge milky and smelly. any help

What level is the oil ? Was the gear lube in the drive checked/replaced?

Not exactly the best way to operate boat.
Can be a seized engine or seized outdrive

The oil level right now is full and clear . Not black at all in the pan. The only oil is in the bilge. But when I was towed in the bilge was dry. It took two days for the bilge to have some milky oil in it.

The only other loud clanking if from a stuck valve, broken rocker arm , bent pushrod, pulled rocker stud. Pull the valve cover and take a look

It's at the shop. Still a full level oil oil engine. I looked at everything when the valve cover was off and no damage
