I bought a 1987 Rinker with a 4.3 OMC I did not know if the boat was running. I stated it after I brought it home using a water hose. I discovered that one of the freeze plug were blown out and the power steering cooler was also leaking. I went ahead and replaced both and started the engine again and I noticed that the right side manifold was leaking water, other than that it ran good for a few minutes, then water mixed with oil started to come from the breather hose and now it is also on the dipstick. please advise whether I should just replace the exhaust manifold or do you think that the head might be cracked.
also note that when I first started the engine there were no water mixed with oil
the problem started when the engine got warm

Re: oil mixed with oil

You have a cracked block. The freeze plug and the PS cooler show that the engine was not winterized.

You may get lucky and find it's a head gasket, but it looks doubtful.

Start taking the exaust manifold off you see the leak coming from and you may see your answer. Even before that, use a mirror with a light and see if you can detect any casting cracks along the side of the engine.

Good luck. And remember......this is what owning a boat is!

boat was not winterized... shame they get neglected and killed like that
Unfortunately those 1 piece omc manifolds are not available, but 2 pc conversion kits are available -around $1200 or so for the kit with manifolds risers, and various clamps, hoses

and then you need an engine... 87-90ish 4.3... you can get a truck engine and swap all the ignition, fuel system and electrical over from your cracked motor.

a rad shop might be able to solder your p/s cooler back together
