i have a 1978 chrysler 35 outboard and when i run it in a barrel of water i see alot of oil is this common? the motor has not been in water for many years and i just got it running. the oil seems to be comming from a hole just under the vent screw.
My 1970, 35 HP Chrysler makes a mess in the barrel or lakes. I feel it looks worst than it actually is at all times. To me, it?s most noticeable when the engine is cold. Rich fuel in the exhaust is my guess. Plus, I recently found the fuel bowl too loose. Where is the fuel vent screw located that you are speaking of? JOW
Sound like hes talking about the lower unit. Oil should not be coming from their if thats what your talking about, hows your foot oil look? do you have any oil in it? Is it milky?
Smokepole27, I feel you made a better catch of what was being said about the oil leak. The key was "vent screw" vs me adding "fuel vent screw". I read too much into the problem due to, "run it in a barrel", where my 35's rich mixture is a mess. He should see an obvious problem out of the barrel if it's not related to running.
He couldve been talking about the carb but didnt say the carb vent... But in the same sense your talking about, Im not to understanding the oil from the exhaust, I mix my fuel 50:1 like its supposed to and this thing (85 force) smokes its butt off, granit it hasnt run in the past 5 years so that leads me to believe once I get the new head Ill be decarbing the motor... New head hopefully with the gasket will be here tuesday and impeller kit monday so she'll be running again. Got the cables today so as long as wildlife fisheries wont mind the expired registration Ill prob. go make a run with it and feel how she runs
