Oil leak from propeller

I have a 1986 merc 9.8. I have recently changed the oil and everything was fine, there was no water in the oil I drained. I ran the motor on a couple of trips and then it sat for a week. I happened to notice that their was a heavy dark black oil dripping out of the propeller. What could this be from and how can I fix it?

Smell it if's gear lube it will smell like it then check the lower unit, there is a possibilty that if yoy have been a idle alot it's unburned engine oil.

I checked the oil in the lower unit and it was fine. There was no water and the oil was perfect.
