I just purchased a Sea Ray 160 with a 100hp outboard from 1989 or 1990. The outboard has Sea Ray logos but I believe these were made for Sea Ray by Mercury. It has only 300-some hours and runs fine, though a bit hard to start after sitting. A neighbor much more knowledgeable about boats suggested I ought to by pass the oil injection system, as those are known to fail and cause engine damage. I think he is speaking of those systems generally, not specific to Mercury or this outboard. I'm curious if any advice from this forum on that, as well as whether there is any way to assess my current system to see how healthy it is. Thanks!
