Re: Oil Filled Trailer

Take it to a shop that rust proofs cars. They can spray the inside of the frame with some really thick waxy rust preventative using long wands.

I think the oil fill idea would work better on a stationary object. I can imagine little stress cracks or fractures in the welds develop over time and then it becomes a leaking mess. How about filling it with something a little more environmentally friendly like fuel oil. At least it will evaporate if it leaks.

If the trailer were air tight, wouldn't you be able to accomplish the same thing (eliminate rust) by creating a vacuum in the frame or filling with an inert gas. Seems like a lot of work and hassle if there is a leak...the environmental police would be after you if there were an accident on the roadway or leak in a waterway...make sure you properly placard the trailer...you're tranporting a hazardous material in an unapproved container.

I do my own oil changes, so I will save at least one trip to the community dump with the old oil. Whatdoyouthink ??
The auto makers and oil companies would have us believe that used motor oil contains corrosive compounds so you might want to consider using new oil, not oil drained from your vehicles.
