I took my boat out fishing and it ran just fine and the next week it started leaking oil through the carb and wouldn't start good unless throttle was up all the way what could be the cause of this?

Check your oil level. It is likely overfilled or the PCV system is having issues.

I looked up the parts list for a random Merc 4 cycle 15HP motor. It looks like the fuel pump is mechanically driven, by the cam or crankshaft. If the fuel pump diaphragm has a hole in it, gasoline could get into the crankcase, overfilling it and forcing oil into the carb via the PCV system.

Speculation on my part, but worth investigating. Fuel pump rebuild kits appear to be avail.
