That's a good drawing to show people how the Volvo/OMC and newer Mercs are setup.

If you have that setup, putting a skinny tube down the dipstick to suck the oil makes it much tougher than taking advantage of the much larger diameter of the dipstick tube and sucking from the connection at the top.

A simple 90 degree ball valve has been working great for me, since I trailer boat. It took a while to find the right (cheap) thread adapter to fit, but the method works great. Gets all the oil out with no mess. There's not even a creeping oil stain on the bottom of the oil pan. I sometimes let it drain for days out the bilge drain hole through a piece of heater hose. After, I strap the hose upright to my gas fill pipe so it doesn't drip any further. The bilge stays clean as a whistle. The oil filter location is my pet peeve, since it's on the side of my 2.5L and full of oil. I manage, but what a dumb location. - Grandad

That's why they make remote oil filter set ups although I am assuming you can get at it but its just messy.
