I bought the West Marine 6.9QT manual oil change pump last year. It came with all sorts of adapters....I know there was one specifically for Mercruise and it threaded on to the dipstick tube. I remember as I was cleaning up, one of the pieces went flying and landed in a bush. To this day I still cannot find that piece...nor do I know which piece it was lol. Pretty sure it was red as I caught a fleeting glimpse of it flying through the air. Curious if I can just use this pump and stick the tube all the way down the tube or do I specifically need that adapter to go on there? If I can avoid buying a whole new one just because of one piece, that would be great. Don't see where I can but just the Mercruiser attachment for it. Engine is a 2002 5.0. Only used it that once, so didn't really get familiar with it enough to know what I need. Thanks!!!

It should be a standard female garden hose fitting.
Or, you could use a small hose to go inside the tube to the bottom of the pan.
Or, you could use a hose that attaches to the outside of the dipstick tube.

Awesome, thanks. I wasn't sure if it needed to be sealed for whatever reason. I always thought the the vac systems you just popped the hose to the bottom of the pan and off you go. I was honestly a bit surprised there was so much to the merc with all the adapters.

Just put it down the dipstick tube. All will be well. I’ve only ever done exactly that. Good argument that you’ll get more oil out this way too.

That'll make it *much* slower though. You're reducing the diameter of the tube by quite a bit.

Could maybe argue that with just the tube, you have a greater suction created with less effort. Never found it an issue with warm oil. Use a pela vacuum pump and it’s extracted in a few minutes. Either way, I’d rather get all the oil out. Usually flush a little fresh stuff through there then pump that out after too. Each to their own, I suppose. All the best. Allan.

That's the option I would do. But I have a 4.3 ltr engine, where the dip stick tube almost goes all the way down to the bottom of the oil pan. Once you suck all the oil out there may be a pint or less left which I carefully drain by opening the drain plug and catch it in a small container and some rags.
