well found out today the darn transom on my 17 foot aero-craft is pretty well gone. so i guess after this weekends fishing i will be putting in another transom. i guess the good part is that its a aluminum boat so it should be easier than glass boats to replace.i will take lots of pics and post as it goes along. i suppose its cheaper than buying a new boat which i would dearly love to do.

Cougar, you say "another" transom... What happened that it needs another? Sandwich them plywood boards together with epoxy, then coat the whole thing, and you'll never have to think about it again!

sorry i just meant that i seem to be getting boats that have transoms that are gone or close enough that a year later you know about it. but if you buy cheap, you get cheap.the boat is 35 years old or more so im going to think on it for a while and in the mean time ive switched everthing back to the other boat so im no stranded.thank god ive got the rigging of these boats down to a couple of hours or id be nuts. im putting the 90 back on this boat again!!

Know what ya mean. I picked up a beautiful Starcraft Islander, and although I spent the better part of a day on the stern, I didn't catch the rot on the transom that was way up top.

I'm not mad about it, just need to rip into her, that's all. She's completely gutted now. When I'm done, the boat will be pristine, and will no doubt outlive me...

Good Luck

Re: oh boy not another rotten transom!

well took the boat out in the pic, what a screamer!! anyway started to get at the transom on the aul. aero-craft and it seems that they used a 2 piece transom.so if i deside to continue with project should i go with the same or go for all 1 piece.when i say 2 piece i mean a bottom part then a top ,weird. my other question would be if i go original design ,to use laminated plywood or say solid maple??
