Odd mariner serial number

I have just gotten a 5 hp Mercury Mariner and I have looked at several web sites in an attempt to get the year of the motor. I can't seem to get the serial number to match. The serial number is 0623--71.

That is not a s/n unless you have not typed all of the numbers.

For a 5 hp Mariner, it should look like this:

661-10126 or
6E3-102151 or
A874672 or
09630000 if made in Belgium.

That s/n comes up as:

MARINER - ( 15 H.P. (1995 ))
Serial No: 0G233071 Model No: 7015311DD

Are you sure yours is a 5hp or 15hp as the s/n indicates?
