My 850 thunderbolt has been suffereing from starting problems and I have been informed that it could be due to the use of the lower octane fuel (unleaded)I have been told that the older Mercurys this one is 30 years old need a higher octane fuel.As higher octane fuel (4 STAR) is no longer avalible here in the UK is the use of an octane booster a good move or will it do more damage than it is worth. Thanks

Re: Octane booster

It should run fine with 87-89 octane. Most all old inlines are hard to start! You have to almost flood them to start. After you pump the blub up give it 2 more hard pumps. And make sure that the motor is all the way down. This should make it easy-r to start. Tim
