I need to remove the tilt/trim unit from my 115 ocean pro. I've gotten the upper pin out but cannot remove the lower one. Is there something I'm not seeing holding it in? The manual just says to gently tap it out.

Are you trying to remove the unit or just the tilt ram? What is your year and model #?

Trying to remove the unit. Need to replace the valve/pump assembly.

If you're in a salt water area you may want to try some heat.

Without knowing the year you must have a different unit than mine. I have 4 bolts(two on each side) to remove and the unit can just be pulled out. I don't have a lower pin to take out. Some one else will chime in with the info you need. Good luck.

There are some wimpy keepers on each side of the tilt pin on my '98 Johnny V6. Maybe you got 'em as well.

each side of the large steel pins there is a C-clip. remove one side and drive the pin out the other carrying that sides c-clip with it.

I have had to use heat on the lower pin...

they are supposed to rotate freely!!

The ocean pro and ocean runner, intruder and fastrack series of outboards used a TNT unit called Fastrak

it is different than the crossflow units.

Gently is a VERY subjective word. When they were brand new a gentle tap probably would have sufficed. 15 years later a gentle tap increases to a good solid whack.

My 95 150 Ocean runner required a 3 pound sledge and a hardened driving bar. I had to hit it pretty solidly all the while ensuring it's not being hit so hard it breaks the castings. Once it started moving it got easier. (no heat required for my saltwater dweller) :)

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. A three pound sledge and some rather violent whacks got it loose and out without breaking anything.
