Took my 96 175 Ocean Pro down the cooper river and ate, half way back (bout an hour solid at 4k rpms) I shut it down for a short break. When I tried to restart the starter just made this horrible grinding noise. Had to be towed.. (that sucked) I popped the cover off and the starter motor was very Hot. It could have been hot because it next the MOTOR, but, seemed very warm.When I went out to the boat this morning and tried it. The starter ingaged as normal, but the RPM's of the starter slowed like the battery was low, thats not the case. they both are charged and good.
... Anyone know what the fix could be or how to narrow this one down?
By the way, this happend once before and so replaced both batteries. Thinking I had bad batteries.
Is it simply a bad sign the the entire starter needs replaced?? Thanks for any and all help.. I would love to go out again soon!!!
I checked the connections in and around the starter and the batteries as well.
1. If its the starter, are they hard to change?
2. If its the starter, can it be rebuilt?
