Hello
I'm a 1st time boat owner and in need of help.
I purchased a 1989 Thunder Craft 18 ft open bow outboard boat.
I then became aware of the US Coast Guard rule that all boats need an occupancy plate.
Do not have one on this boat.
I need the info off a plate for a boat this size to have a plate made.
I contacted Doral who I believe is the current owner of Thunder Craft but have not had any luck with getting someone to return my emails or calls.
The boat is 18 ft in length and 8 ft wide open bow with a 90 horse outboard motor.
Does anyone know how many people and weight can fit in this boat for sure? I found the USCG Formula... LN X wd / 15 X 150lbs.. which translates into 9 people or 1350 lbs. Does that sound right?
Also what is the total weight with people and gear and motor?
Does anyone know where these boats were manufactured?
I found a Thunder Craft 1560 o/b parked side of the road that had Knoxville Tn 37918 as manufacture's city and zip code. The plate also said that the 1560 could hold 5 people or 700 lbs and total weight was 1350 lbs.
I remain hesitant to put this boat in the ST.Lawrence with all the law enforcement agencies checking boats all the time. I understand it is a ticket with out this plate attached to the boat.
So my Dad is standing outside with his fishing pole in hand waiting for me, and I have no boat for us to use...
Any help will be very much appreciated.
Thanks
