John S,

Fished the Otselic just above the WP res. again yesterday. Caught 6 smallies, 2 perch and 1 'eye. Biggest smallie was 15". 'Eye was 16".
Fished the reservoir from sundown to sunup on Sat. night. My partner caqught one 'eye (about the size iof a smelt) on a homemade lure. I had no bites all night. Couldn't even get a bite on a worm.
18.5" smallie must have given you a good tussle. I always say that river bass fight harder than lake bass. I have a funny feeling you wwere fishing in the Hiawatha Island, Hickories Park area. My partner and I fished all the way around the island once about 15 years ago and didn't catch anything.

Fullboat,

That area is good, late fall. We did launch from the hickories, but the water was high enough to get to many other areas of the river.

Jag59, my son and I fished the inlet to Whitney Point Res, yesterday evening. About 6PM to dark. We fished just the short run above the old steel deck bridge, to the first tight turn to the left. We fished from Kayaks, and the depth of the channel varied from 6' to 10'. I caught 8 walleyes of which 3 were 15" or better. Lost another keeper close to the boat. Son caught about five walleyes, one of which was keeper size. All fish came on 1/4oz white jigheads with thin 4" white twister grub bodies. This was my first time fishing this area. My son had fished just two days before, with similiar results.

John S.,
Sorry I didn't respond sooner. Since the June floods I have only been fishing once. Oneida Lake on Aug. 13. 12 hours on the water and 3 fish between two of us. 1 walleye (15 inches). I'm planning a trip on the Susquehanna on Labor Day weekend near Nineveh, NY. That's about 15 to 20 miles up Route 88 northeast of Binghamton. I'll let you know how I make out. Glad to hear that you had some luck near the reservoir. That stretch of the river seems to be a good spot. I may get out to try it agin this weekenmd if the local stock car racing gets rained out (again). My lack of fishing has given me a chance to work on my golf game. I fear that I have the curse of the working man. Too many hobbies.

That time of year again. Opening day this coming Sat. My son has a final on Sat, so we won't hit the water till Sunday. I think the crowds will keep us away from Oneida Lake/Fish Creek area. Maybe heading to Delta or Otisco. Who else will be braving the high water?
