I bought a ns90a. I run one battery down trying to crank it. So I swapped batteries. An in one of my most embarrassing moments, I hooked the battery cables up backwards to the battery. Instally I saw smoke and yanked the cables off now it's not firing at all. Just wondering what damage I done. Im just wondering did I smoke the CD box? Not sure what I burnt up to cause it to not fire now

Don't know what shorted out, but most likely it was the ignition system. If it was a Mercruiser it normally is the ECM

I think it's pretty safe to say there's some diagnostics that need to be done before even a wild guess can be made regarding what it's going to take to fix it.

You need to get the book for it. Generally crossing the battery will blow a fuse. But the Japanese motors use a little different stator set up.

I had a problem last season with my Nissan 70 H.P. The starter spun o.k. but motor would not fire. Like pvanv said, check the fuse on the motor. That's what my problem was. It is the fuse that is almost at the very top of the motor in a holder. The glass was cracked on the fuse. I put in a new glass fuse, and the motor started right up.
