Mercruiser Alpha one drive 5.0L SN OW387598. Ran fine all last season. Out of dry storage this weekend, Fine on Saturday ran for several hours, Sunday ran for 10 min, idleing while changing skier then stalled and won't start again. Pulled fuel filter dumped into bucket, re-installed same filter, engine started ran weak 2 min and stalled. Wouldn't start again. gas gauge reads half tank. Tuesday Replaced fuel filter, started up OK idled for 5 min or so then sputtered and stalled. Tried to restart had to pump the throttle, finally started idled for 20 seconds and stalled. Oil pressure gauge reads 40. Not sure what to check next.

Does the fuel pump have adequate pressure?

Howdy,

You probably have a plugged fuel pick-up scree, a plugged fuel tank vent or possibly a failed fuel pump. It might not be a bad idea to test the fuel delivery system to see if you're getting good fuel flow to the carb.

I had the same problem with my 4.3 mercruise at the start of this season. It was acting like it wasn;t getting enough gas. I found out that there is a fine fule filter at the entrance on the carb. Mine was just about filled up with little peices of trash from the last owner using ethanol. after blowing the filter out and cleaning it real good all worked good

I like the idea of a plugged filter at the carb. Easy enough to check (and fix!).... If that is clean, then my money is on a bad fuel pump (that was my prob when I had similar symptoms after bringing out of storage). I'll add it is not advisable to empty your fuel separator/filter and then reinstall (debris from dirty side can easily migrate to clean side when you do this)....but I guess ya gotta do what ya gotta do in the heat of battle.

Don't count on the fuel gauge. Is the boat level? If not, add at least 15 gallons. IMO, you are low on gas unless you know for a fact you have a lot in the tank. Other than that, the fuel pump could be shot but check the gas first.
